To upgrade the kernel on this device, a microSD card formatted for FAT32 must be used.
Warning : This process will delete all custom settings, files and data present on the device.
- Back up any needed files before proceeding.
- Download from the FTP site the latest version of the SD Card image for the 6100.
- Download 6100 Windows CE 5.0 files here
- Download the “SD Image” that corresponds to the needs. (‘CHS’ stands for ‘Chinese Simplified’ and ‘WWE’ for ‘World Wide English’).
- Download a complete copy of the ‘Honeywell’ folder to the computer.
- Copy the entirecontents of the downloaded ‘SD Image’ folder plus the complete ‘Honeywell’ folder to the microSD card.
Note: The Storage Card should contain the contents of the ‘SD Image’ folder, not the folder itself. The files can also be written directly to microSD card while installed in the device using Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync. - When complete, the Storage Card must contain:

- Honeywell folder with its contents

- SelfUpdate(vx.x).exe
- Note:The “xx” values represent the device kernel version or the SelfUpdate utility version.
- For a Dolphin 6100 Windows CE 5.0 device:
- Place the microSD Card in the device.
- If the device is running the same kernel version as the one included on the ‘SD Card’ files, it is not necessary to run the SelfUpdate utility; skip to the “Factory Reset” instructions now. Otherwise, begin with the “Kernel Upgrade” instructions.
Kernel Upgrade:
- Cradle the device in a HomeBase or connect a power supply to it.
- Use the device File Explorer to browse to the “Storage Card” folder.
- Click on “SelfUpdate(vx.x)” application then click on “OK”.
- At the end of the process the device will reinstall latest drivers and utilities.
- Note that the device will automatically restart twice.
Factory Reset
- Press and hold the “Power” button.
- Using a stylus, press and release the reset button located at the bottom of the keypad (just above and to the left of the power button).
- Release the “Power Button”.
- When the Dolphin BootLoader screen appears (with the Honeywell logo), press the following keys:1277
- Select the option for “Factory reset”. To choose this option press the keys “12” and then the “Ent” key.
